Year 5 – Malay as a Foreign Language

The Cambridge Year 5 Malay as a Foreign Language course is designed to strengthen learners’ Malay communication skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while helping them use the language more confidently in everyday situations.

Students will continue to expand their vocabulary and develop the ability to construct more detailed sentences and short paragraphs. Through stories, dialogues, reading passages, and guided writing activities, learners will improve their understanding of spoken and written Malay and express ideas more clearly.

This course places strong emphasis on:

• Listening to longer conversations, instructions, and short stories in Malay

• Speaking clearly to describe experiences, share opinions, and participate in simple discussions

• Reading short passages and identifying key information and main ideas

• Writing structured sentences and short paragraphs using appropriate vocabulary and basic grammar

Lessons include storytelling, dialogue practice, vocabulary development activities, reading comprehension exercises, and interactive tasks to support language learning.

By the end of the course, students will be able to understand longer spoken Malay, read short texts with improved comprehension, write short paragraphs using appropriate vocabulary, and communicate ideas more confidently in everyday situations.
