Year 5 – Combined Science

The Cambridge Year 5 Combined Science course is designed to deepen learners’ understanding of scientific concepts while developing their ability to investigate and explain the world around them.

Students will explore a range of topics including living things, materials, forces, energy, Earth, and the environment. Through experiments, observations, and guided investigations, learners will develop scientific thinking, curiosity, and the skills needed to analyse and explain everyday phenomena.

This course places strong emphasis on:

• Understanding the structure and functions of plants and animals

• Exploring the properties and uses of different materials

• Learning about forces, motion, and simple machines

• Investigating different forms of energy such as light, heat, and sound

• Observing Earth, weather, and environmental changes

Lessons include interactive explanations, hands-on experiments, visual demonstrations, and investigative activities that encourage students to ask questions and think scientifically.

By the end of the course, students will be able to explain key scientific concepts, carry out simple investigations, interpret observations and results, and apply scientific knowledge to understand everyday situations.
