Year 4 – Chinese as a Second Language

The Cambridge Year 4 Chinese as a Second Language course is designed to further strengthen learners’ Mandarin communication skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through structured and engaging learning activities.

Students will expand their vocabulary and begin using more detailed sentences to communicate about familiar topics such as school life, hobbies, family, and daily experiences. Through dialogues, reading passages, listening activities, and guided writing tasks, learners will improve their ability to understand and express ideas in Mandarin.

This course places strong emphasis on:

• Listening to conversations, instructions, and short stories in Mandarin

• Speaking using clear sentences to describe experiences and share ideas

• Reading short passages and understanding key information

• Writing sentences and short paragraphs using appropriate vocabulary and basic grammar

Lessons include dialogue practice, vocabulary development activities, reading exercises, interactive discussions, and writing tasks to support language learning in an engaging environment.

By the end of the course, students will be able to understand longer spoken Mandarin, read short texts with better comprehension, write simple paragraphs, and communicate ideas more confidently in everyday situations.
