About This Course

The Cambridge Year 1 English as a Second Language course is designed to help young learners develop basic communication skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through engaging and interactive activities.

Students will be introduced to simple words, phrases, and short sentences used in everyday situations. Through stories, songs, pictures, conversations, and guided activities, learners will build confidence in understanding and using English in the classroom and daily life.

This course places strong emphasis on:

  • Listening to simple instructions, stories, and short conversations

  • Speaking using basic words and short sentences

  • Recognising letters, sounds, and simple words while reading

  • Writing letters, words, and short sentences

Lessons combine storytelling, games, songs, visuals, and interactive exercises to make learning enjoyable and meaningful for young learners.

By the end of the course, students will be able to understand simple spoken English, read basic words and sentences, express ideas using simple phrases, and communicate with growing confidence in everyday situations.
