About This Course
The Year 11 Biology course is designed to develop students’ understanding of living organisms and the biological processes that sustain life. The course builds strong foundations in biological knowledge, scientific thinking, and practical skills required for further study in biology and related sciences.
Students will explore key biological concepts such as cell structure and function, human body systems, plant biology, reproduction, genetics, ecology, and interactions between organisms and their environment. Emphasis is placed on understanding biological processes, interpreting data, and applying biological knowledge to real-life situations.
Through a combination of theory, practical investigations, diagrams, and exam-style questions, students will develop scientific reasoning skills and learn to communicate biological ideas clearly using correct terminology.
By the end of the course, students will be able to explain biological processes, analyse biological data, and apply biological concepts to everyday and environmental contexts.
What students will gain:
-
A strong understanding of core biological concepts and processes
-
Ability to explain how living organisms function and interact
-
Confidence in using biological terms, diagrams, and explanations
-
Practical skills in observation, investigation, and data interpretation
-
Improved scientific reasoning and analytical thinking
-
A solid foundation for advanced biology and science-related studies
