About This Course

The Year 11 English course is designed to strengthen learners’ advanced communication, critical thinking, and analytical skills in preparation for upper secondary assessments and future academic pathways.

Students will study a range of literary and non-literary texts, including fiction, non-fiction, media texts, and real-world materials. Through close reading, discussion, and writing tasks, learners will analyse language, structure, purpose, and meaning while developing confident and accurate expression.

This course places strong emphasis on:

  • Critical reading and interpretation

  • Structured and extended writing

  • Effective spoken communication

  • Accurate use of language for different purposes and audiences

Lessons combine guided analysis, independent practice, discussions, presentations, and exam-style tasks to ensure students are well prepared for assessments and real-world communication.

By the end of the course, students will be able to express ideas clearly, support opinions with evidence, analyse texts in depth, and communicate confidently in both academic and everyday contexts.
